Track Rebuild is happening Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3. Billy Allen is designing the modifications and completing the loader work. We need volunteer help with the finish work which includes raking, watering, packing, and dragging. Feel free to help anytime sunrise to sunset. Some targerted time slots are Tuesday late afternoon until dark, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday later afternoon until dark, and Friday all day. As soon as the track is ready we may announce a practice or two.
Wednesday 10:57pm update:
There was alot accomplished today. I'm tired and have to get up early
to be back at the track early in the morning so this update may be a
little shorter. Billy is done with all of the machine work ahead of
schedule. The only part he couldn't do was the rolling the track with
the roller machine. We didn't communicate the right roller to Gregory
Poole so they dropped of a single roller big size. We needed a double
45" roller. Can't find one anywhere. Do you know anyone that one
that we could use Thursday? Jeeps and the like work just fine in lieu
of the roller. Phil Oddo had his vehicle rolling parts of the track
and Greg Ford rolled some with his Jeep. Jack Milani is coming at 8am
in the morning with an old style Bronco that has some lift on it so
hopefully we can hit some spots that the jeep couldn't get on. We also
packed alot with the two four wheelers. Thanks to the Gay family for
providing the second one this week! Thanks to Courtney Applewhite for
volunteering her time and bring some gas for the quads. Thanks to Robbie
Foust, Bruce Oliver, the Moores, the Dunns, the Fisks, Greg and Colby
Smith, and Cory Papworth for all volunteering their time today!!! I
think it's pretty safe to say that we can have full track practice on
Thursday evening. There are a few finishing touches and some work on
turn three that hopefully can be accomplished before 5pm tomorrow with
your help. I can't say enough good things about the dirt that the city
parks and recreation provided! It looks real sandy, but its some really
good stuff and that has translated into less work to make it ridable.
We might be in and out of the track tomorrow so if it's before 5pm call
me when your on the way. Dial the hotline at 834-4269 and press zero.
Bring a rake if you have one.
Oh, and we took Billy Allen out for a celebration dinner tonight and
to experience some eastern NC bbq at The Pit downtown. I think he has
done an amazing job with this rebuild! It's remarkable what he can do
with a loader and how quick he can do it.
PS. The last bit of leftover dirt was used to repair the vehicle entrance
to our grass parking lot. You know, the one that was rutted out pretty
bad.
Tuesday 10:37pm update:
The loader was repaired promptly by Gregory Poole! I can't say enough
kind words about Gregory Poole for donating equipment for this rebuild.
They also agreed to add to our request and loan us a small skidsteer
for some fine tuning work and to get to one spot that we can't with
the big machine. They are also going to drop off the roller earlier
since we are ahead of schedule. Yep, if all goes well Billy may be finished
with his part of the work by around 6pm tomorrow night! Please join
us for a celebration dinner around 6:30pm-7pm if you would like. We
will probably be doing something casual like bbq. Lets meet at the track
by 6pm to leave for dinner. At least a couple people are opting to work
on the track at the time and that is a-ok too. Thanks to the city parks
and recreation who was kind enough to provide 300 tons of dirt. Most
of it was dropped off today and the rest will arrive in the morning.
When we first saw the dirt it looked real sandy, but ends up its real
good stuff. It has been sifted too! The track will probably look multi-colored,
but I have been told the more clay mixture in the turns(we used existing
dirt) and more sand mixture in the straights is a good thing.
Progress - Turn three has been built and looks a lot different than
before. It's a different sharper turn since the footprints of straights
three and four have moved a little closer to each other. It's also a
lot taller. There will be a double in front of it and the second half
of the double is in place. After measuring the third straight the plan
has changed slightly. It will be roller, table, double. The first obstacle
was changed from a double to a roller because there wasn't enough room
to fit a double. It sounds like the roller will be a little different
than the old one...more of a rounded roller this time. In straight four
the build has started at the last turn and is working back to turn three.
So far a roller and a small step-up into the turn has been built. Phil
Oddo and I snuck a few sample rides in on the first two straights. It
still needed a little more packing, but we could tell it's going to
be fun! By dark most of the finish work on straights one and two were
complete including the near final phase of dragging. Turn two has been
worked a lot, but can probably use a little more tlc. The work on turn
three has been started.
Everytime Billy finishes a section it's good to have volunteer help
ready to work it. It sounds like he will be finishing alot tomorrow
so come out if you can help. We originally anticpated Friday as the
big finish work day, but if we have enough help maybe we can by finished
by then and enjoy riding on it some. Also happening tomorrow afternoon
will be our interview with Park Connection, the City of Raleigh Parks
& Recreation monthly 30 minute video show.
A huge thanks to Phil Oddo, Corey Papworth, the Dunns & a friend,
and Greg & Colby Smith for volunteering today!!
Tuesday 10:26am update:
Progress - The first straight, second straight, and turn two have been
modified. The finish work on straight one is complete. The finish work
on straight two is half complete, and the finish work on turn two has
been started. Turn three work was started this morning, but the loader
needs a repair before work can resume.
How - On straight one the first existing roller has been built up. The
camel/obstacle two has been built up and the last obstacle on straight
one remains the same. Turn one stays the same. On straight two the face
of the first obstacle remains unchanged. The back of the jump was built
up and it is now a step-up. The track also is now wider at this point.
The next two obstacles look really fun! It starts with a double to a
step-down and then goes immediately into a step-down. These two obstacles
are pretty close and there is talk that some really good riders might
be able to jump off the back of the step-down and land on top of the
step-up. Should be fun for riders that are better than me to play with.
The landing on the last obstacle on straight two is now closer to turn
two which helps put the rider into turn two better than before. Turn
two has been modified and is now taller. Straight three is empty at
the moment, but might end up as double, table, double. The doubles may
be similar as the old doubles in straight two. The table may be similar
to the table coming out of the last turn, but longer. The plan for straight
three could be altered once turn three is built. Turn three is in the
process of being razed and will be rebuilt next. Straights three and
four will be on a slightly different footprint a little closer to each
other. This will change turn three plus the turn three will be built
higher. Straight four/rythm section will be torn down and completly
rebuilt. The build of that section will probably see rollers, of course,
along with a camel somewhere in the mix plus a step-up that will hopefully
put the racers into the bank of the turn better than the existing layout.
On the last straight the table and the next roller will stay and the
rest will be changed. The new finish line will be where the last roller
is currently. This should allow the spectators in the main set of bleachers
to see and cheer on all of the close exciting finishes a little better!
Here is a video
video that Robbie Foust took on Monday night after the first build
day. Thanks to Robbie Foust, Greg and Colby Smith, and Mark Moore for
volunteering Monday night!

Thursday practice- Remember the new times from 5:00 til 7:30 or dark whichever comes first. Also we would like to make our parents aware that riders may not be dropped off. A parent must stay with their child at practice unless that child is able to drive him or herself.
State Race Info
For anyone not familiar with our State series program. The State series is a series of five races held in the state with four qualifiers and one final race. Each of the tracks, Capital City, Burlington, Compark and Charlotte each hold a qualifier. Based upon the results, each rider is awarded points. At the final race, there are state number plates awarded in each age group NOT each class within each age group. (novice, intermediate and expert may or may not race each other depending on the riders needed to form motos but will be competing point wise for the same number plates). The number of plates awarded depends on the number of eligible racers in each age group. The ABA will award number plates to 50% of the total number of riders with state points in each age group., not to exceed 10 plates per age. In order to be eligible for a state plate, the rider needs to race in at least 3 out of the 4 qualifiers.
Each race is double ABA district points & state championship points.
Entry fee is $20.00 per race. Awards will be double saver stamps &
Double Point trophy's.

STAMPS
At the end of the race, the rider is asked whether they would like a
trophy or stamps. For some of you who have been racing quite awhile,
your child's bedroom might be starting to get full with no more room
on top of the dresser for anymore trophies. The answer to that problem
is starting to receive stamps. Each stamp is worth $.75. For first place
you are awarded five stamps, three for 2nd. 2 for 3rd. and 1 for 4th.
These stamps can be used to purchase things from Coastal Bike Supply
which is our local bike shop that comes to the track on racedays. Many
of you know this as Homer's place. All Star Bike Shop also accepts these
stamps. And with the National coming to Raleigh in August, there will
be even more vendors that weekend to purchase from. So when your child
asks for that new set of gloves or that really cool number plate, have
them start collecting stamps at the end of the race. Just put them in
an envelope. It wont' be long until they have enough to purchase that
special item.
Volunteer Reminder
Also as a reminder to our old timers and to let our newbies know.......We have a volunteer incentive program in place at the track as our way of saying thank you to our volunteers. For seven times volunteering, you will be awarded $10.00 track bucks which our yours to use for registration, practice, bike rentals or at the concession stand. So if you would like to help out on raceday, be sure and see the people in registration and they will point you in the right direction.
The 2009 New Rider clinics will be held the last Saturday of the month 9:30am check-in and 10am-12noon clinic session.
The new covered staging area, asphalt removal, and new concrete in the staging area have all been completed.

Check out this article to learn more about the new pump track at Lake Crabtree! There are two ways to get power on a bmx track...pedaling and pumping. This is a great way to train for pumping. There are also new jumps opening October 2008.

Report - The last several New Rider clinics have been some of the biggest
yet with 15 riders! The track now has six loaner bikes, including four
pro size and two junior size(thanks to Mr. C for one of them!)<<update:plus
two new junior sized bikes...thanks to Homer at Coastal Bike for help
with the purchase>>. A lot of new riders are young so we have
a need for micro, mini, junior, and expert sized, etc. bikes. Please
consider donating your old bikes or bike parts to the Capital City BMX
loaner program. You might also consider a donation/sponsorship so we
can buy used bikes for this program. We do have a charity status so
you can receive a tax deductible donation receipt.
