Opportunity To Join BMX Team
Your opinion is always heard and considered at Capital City BMX. But once a year you have the unique opportunity to join the team that determines the Capital City BMX vision and helps shape it for the upcoming year. It's an opportunity to serve others and help give back to a sport that you and/or your children love.
One of the most natural reactions to this opportunity is to ask "what is involved?". You may be happy to learn that a lot of the small to mid-sized decisions are done via a brief phone call or email. This helps things run efficiently and effectivily plus obviously benefits the board members by not having to meet live in-person over every little thing. And there are a least a couple times of year that it makes sense to meet, break bread together, discuss the vision, and make decisions.
For over 25 years people just like you made an extra effort to make Capital City BMX a special place, but by the very nature of being an ALL volunteer run team it is delicate. If everyone says "some else can do it" then it can all dissolve.
To learn more about what's involved please call Track Operator Shane Gay by dialing the hotline 834-4269 and pressing 0 (zero).

Annual Sportmanship Award
CCBMX has initiated a Sportsmanship of the Year Award in 2004 to honor and memorialize Rush McComas, who died in October of 2004. The first award for the 2004 season is awarded to his three sons, Nigel, Trevor and Cody, who have displayed constant good sportsmanship during their racing careers. Rush's life showed us not only to display good sportsmanship on the track, but also in his everyday life. CCBMX wishes for Rush to be remembered every year from now on by awarding this special award to the rider who has displayed the following characteristics:
Has distinguished his/herself through good sportsmanship and ethical behavior
In doing so, has behaved in a manor that is consistent with good sportsmanship behavior by using respectful language, congratulating others riders, and being responsible on the track.
This individual has been helpful at the track by volunteering his or services without being asked.
This individual strives to control his/her temper and respects all of those in authority.
Takes loosing as well as winning.
Demonstrated proper and ethical behavior in his/her daily participation in BMX racing
Demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting;
In November of every year, riders and parents will be invited to vote on a candidate for this award for the current calendar year. The person with the most votes will be awarded THE RUSH MCCOMAS SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD at the annual CCBMX Winter Banquet

_______
A HUGE thanks to James "Popeye" aka "Mr. BMX" Merten for building a new starting gate. The old dimensions were 28' wide and 18" tall. The new dimensions are 24' wide and 22" tall so we are now inside of the ABA recommended specs. It should also be a quieter drop when it hits the ground. We will expirement with the landing surface which will either be dirt or firehouse on top of dirt. The gate has been installed and the final touches should be complete on time for practice on Thursday, July 30.
_______
The track rebuild is complete! Thanks to all that helped and continue to help! The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation helped with 300 tons of dirt, Gregory Poole helped by discounting some heavy equipment, Wade Moore helped by mixing the new dirt just right, and lots of you helped by donating your time!
_______
Thursday practice- Remember the new times from 4:30pm until darkt. Also we would like to make our parents aware that riders may not be dropped off. A parent must stay with their child at practice unless that child is able to drive him or herself.
State Race Info
For anyone not familiar with our State series program. The State series is a series of five races held in the state with four qualifiers and one final race. Each of the tracks, Capital City, Burlington, Compark and Charlotte each hold a qualifier. Based upon the results, each rider is awarded points. At the final race, there are state number plates awarded in each age group NOT each class within each age group. (novice, intermediate and expert may or may not race each other depending on the riders needed to form motos but will be competing point wise for the same number plates). The number of plates awarded depends on the number of eligible racers in each age group. The ABA will award number plates to 50% of the total number of riders with state points in each age group., not to exceed 10 plates per age. In order to be eligible for a state plate, the rider needs to race in at least 3 out of the 4 qualifiers.
Each race is double ABA district points & state championship points.
Entry fee is $20.00 per race. Awards will be double saver stamps &
Double Point trophy's.

STAMPS
At the end of the race, the rider is asked whether they would like a
trophy or stamps. For some of you who have been racing quite awhile,
your child's bedroom might be starting to get full with no more room
on top of the dresser for anymore trophies. The answer to that problem
is starting to receive stamps. Each stamp is worth $.75. For first place
you are awarded five stamps, three for 2nd. 2 for 3rd. and 1 for 4th.
These stamps can be used to purchase things from Coastal Bike Supply
which is our local bike shop that comes to the track on racedays. Many
of you know this as Homer's place. All Star Bike Shop also accepts these
stamps. And with the National coming to Raleigh in August, there will
be even more vendors that weekend to purchase from. So when your child
asks for that new set of gloves or that really cool number plate, have
them start collecting stamps at the end of the race. Just put them in
an envelope. It wont' be long until they have enough to purchase that
special item.
Volunteer Reminder
Also as a reminder to our old timers and to let our newbies know.......We have a volunteer incentive program in place at the track as our way of saying thank you to our volunteers. For seven times volunteering, you will be awarded $10.00 track bucks which our yours to use for registration, practice, bike rentals or at the concession stand. So if you would like to help out on raceday, be sure and see the people in registration and they will point you in the right direction.
The 2009 New Rider clinics will be held the last Saturday of the month 9:30am check-in and 10am-12noon clinic session.
Thanks to the City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation for the covered staging area and scoring tower both completed in 2009.
Congrats! We are #7 in the ABA 2008 list of East Coast Top 10 tracks!

Check out this article to learn more about the new pump track at Lake Crabtree! There are two ways to get power on a bmx track...pedaling and pumping. This is a great way to train for pumping. There are also new jumps opening October 2008.

Report - The last several New Rider clinics have been some of the biggest
yet with 15 riders! The track now has six loaner bikes, including four
pro size and two junior size(thanks to Mr. C for one of them!)<<update:plus
two new junior sized bikes...thanks to Homer at Coastal Bike for help
with the purchase>>. A lot of new riders are young so we have
a need for micro, mini, junior, and expert sized, etc. bikes. Please
consider donating your old bikes or bike parts to the Capital City BMX
loaner program. You might also consider a donation/sponsorship so we
can buy used bikes for this program. We do have a charity status so
you can receive a tax deductible donation receipt.
